How to Make Geranium Facial Cream

After successfully infusing oil with the fresh geranium I grow in my garden, I was inspired to create a luxurious geranium facial cream. I love working with natural ingredients and essential oils to craft simple DIY skincare products that promote healthy, glowing skin. Below, you’ll find my favorite recipe for this hydrating facial cream that smells incredible and feels amazing on the skin.

Geranium Facial Cream Recipe

  • 1/4 cup Rose Geranium Infused Oil (link to recipe below)
  • 1.5 - 2 tablespoons Beeswax Pastilles or shaved beeswax (see note 1)
  • 2 tablespoons Fractionated Coconut Oil
  • 1 tablespoon Shea Butter
  • 1/2 teaspoon Calendula Oil
  • 1/2 teaspoon Rosehip Seed Oil or Argan Oil (see note 2)
  • 4 drops Geranium Essential Oil
  • 4 drops Lavender Essential Oil
  • 4 drops Frankincense Essential Oil
  • 3 drops Lemongrass Essential Oil

Recipe Notes

  1. I like to start with the smallest amount of beeswax, then once everything is melted and mixed together, I test a little by putting a bit onto wax paper. I let it cool to see how it firms up. Since it's a facial cream, I’m aiming for a soft, creamy texture - not something that’s too firm or waxy. You want it to glide on smoothly, not feel like you're trying to rub a candle on your face!
  2. Both rosehip seed and argan oils are beneficial for the skin, offering hydration and protection. Rosehip oil has a stronger scent, but it doesn’t linger in the final product. Choose the one you'd like to use based on your skin's needs.

Instructions for Geranium Facial Cream

  1. Prepare a double boiler: Fill a large pan halfway with water and place a smaller heatproof bowl inside it or use a double boiler if you have one.
  2. Melt the ingredients: Add the geranium oil, coconut oil, shea butter, and beeswax to the small bowl. Turn the heat to medium or medium-low and stir frequently until the ingredients are nearly melted.
  3. Add additional oils: Once almost fully melted, mix in the calendula and rosehip (or argan) oils. Stir well.
  4. Get containers ready: While the mixture is heating, prepare your containers. This recipe will fill two 4-ounce jars or one larger container.
  5. Cool and add essential oils (optional): Once everything is fully melted, remove the bowl from heat and let it cool for about 5 minutes. Stir in the geranium, lavender, frankincense, and lemongrass essential oils until combined.
  6. Pour and set: Pour the mixture into your container(s) and allow it to set for 2-3 hours.

How to Use Geranium Facial Cream

I use this cream on my face, neck, chest, and sometimes on my body too. You can apply it on its own or layer it under other skincare products. For hygiene, I recommend using a small spatula to scoop out the cream.

This geranium facial cream is truly a lovely, I love it! If you live in a warmer climate, you might want to pop your facial cream in the fridge to keep it firm - but what a bonus! That cool, refreshing cream on a hot day is like giving your face a tiny spa vacation!
